Two works featured on Harmen Vanhoorne’s new CD

Belgian cornet soloist, Harmen Vanhoorne has released his fantastic debut CD titled Fortune’s Fool, and it features two of my works for cornet and band; Apex and Manchester Concertino.

Harmen is one of three cornet players that I wrote Manchester Concertino for (Roger Webster and Jess Tredrea being the other two) – the first movement of it is dedicated to him (the second to Jess and the third to Roger), so am delighted that he has chosen to record and release it. He was also one of the first soloists to perform Apex so am again really happy that he has recorded it, especially as it is one of the few pieces on the CD that wasn’t originally written for him!

I’ve known Harmen since 2005, when I commissioned by Luc Vertommen and Brass Band Buizingen (who are also the band and conductor on the CD) to write B of the Bang, and since then we have become good friends, so it gives me pleasure to say that the CD is absolutely brilliant; full of original, exciting music all performed by one of the finest cornet players I’ve heard.
